… abstract art that represents reality in reverse, giving new insight into the real world
Reversism is a theory of abstract art discovered/invented by Henry J. Hauser in 1972 while studying the works of Hans Hoffman and Jackson Pollock. Warren Mullen was his art teacher at the time.
Reversism theorizes that there are elements of our existence which are made obscure by objective reality. These obscure elements may be painted abstractly in a way which minimizes objectivity. By minimizing objective reality and making the obscure become obvious, these elements are reversed in the artwork. The theory gives a name for the real elements of our existence: realements.
The obscure element of existence, or realement, which Henry Hauser has painted for over 40 years is opposites. After 2010, the ideas of Reversism found their way into fashion and film. A more thorough discussion of Reversism is found in the pdf book entitled 40 Years in Reverse, Reversism, Theory of Abstract Art, by Henry J. Hauser, available for $5.00 by clicking the Purchase menu above.
